Walk of Memories

Honoring Our Heroes

Memorial Bricks Available

An Unforgettable Experience Honoring Those Who Will Never Be Forgotten

Walk of Memories is the only memorial of its kind in Georgia, paying tribute to those who served in conflicts, including the Indian War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wandering the grounds, you will find almost 8,000 bricks inscribed with the names of Georgians who served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. Those bricks represent those killed in action, those who died of wounds, prisoners of war, sons of the Legion, as well as friends and family.

Monuments along the walkway spotlight several conflicts, including WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Because of the donations from families, friends and organizations, you will find this to be an unforgettable experience.

The Machines Providing the Power

Our exhibit includes an Army tank, helicopter, Navy gun and an Air Force T-33 Trainer. The 93,000 pound M60 tank was used in Europe during the Cold War in the 60’s thru the 80’s and in the Fulda Gap.

The UH-1 Huey helicopter was flown during the 1968 Tet Offensive in the Republic of Vietnam. Its pilot was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. A nearby plaque tells the story of its mission.

The display-mounted, 15,000 pound, 40mm Mark 1 twin gun  was removed from the USS POLK COUNTY (LST 1084).

Seventeen Medal of Honor recipients are honored in this area.

We All Have Someone We'd Love to Honor

Should you wish to honor a loved one through the Walk of Memories, it’s easy to add a brick to the path. There is room for approximately 7,000 additional bricks. Contact us and we will be happy to help you get your brick ordered.

Make Your Own Brick a Special Day

A brick was installed in the Walk of Memories at Post 201 on October 22, 2014 honoring Ed Carroll. Ed was a retired Army Col. who served in both Korean and Vietnam and was a flight instructor on rotary wing aircraft. May he rest in peace.

Ed was also one of the founding members of Chapter 576 Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Meetings for The Purple Heart are held at Post 201 on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7 PM.

Regards,

– Walter Swenson
