SUMMARY:Pearl Harbor Day
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, Dec. 7\, Pearl Harbor Day. The SAL also plans to provide snacks and other finger food in the Clubroom/Bar during the afternoon since the day also is a major college football day. \n\nPearl Harbor Day this year (Saturday Dec. 7) is also a college football championship game day. The SAL plans to provide ‘heavy’ appetizers (wings\, sandwiches and other finger foods) in the Clubroom/Bar that afternoon starting around 4 p.m. SAL Commander Derek Garmon says a 50/50 raffle is also on the afternoon’s entertainment list. And he suggested that some members of the Post family may want to bring a pot-luck dish to compliment the hors d’oeuvres being provided by the SAL. Post Commander Bob Byrd said a special drink would be identified for the day.

Enjoy some great conversations and win fabulous door prizes! Proceed to benefit veterans. Checkout photos from past events on our Instagram Page. \nOrder your ticket(s) now and your taste buds will be well – rewarded! \nThis event is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC\, so be sure to invite your friends! Friday\, September 13th from 7pm to 10pm on the Legion’s beautiful patio deck. \nTickets are available ONLINE AT THIS LINK or in the Clubroom for only $50! Just pop in and ask one of our friendly bartenders!  Or contact us for more details. \nUPDATE:  The bourbons will be Eagle Rare\, Elijah Craig and Knob Creek. The cigar: one or more of the LaGloria Cubana cigar brands. To help those attending plan for a “sophisticated” tasting evening\, here are tasting notes on each of the bourbons: \nEagle Rare – – Nose: Toffee\, orange peel\, herbs\, honey\, leather\, and oak. Taste: Bold\, dry\, and oaky with notes of candied almonds and rich cocoa. Finish: Dry and lingering. \nElijah Craig – – Nose: Sweet\, rich\, burnt caramel\, toffee\, oak\, leather\, black cherry soda. Alcohol is barely noticeable. Taste: Oak\, caramel\, toffee\, mild sweetness. Finish: Oak dominates\, but caramel and toffee are still there\, but are subtle. Some black pepper comes forward. An oaky dryness replaces the initial rich sweet aromas and lingers for quite a while. \nKnob Creek- – Nose: Rye spices\, caramel\, brown sugar\, cherry\, cedar\, vanilla; moderate alcohol. Finish: Rapidly growing capsaicin spice\, oak\, char & dryness build into the long finish. The capsaicin spice turns towards spicy ginger snaps later on. Moderate burn. \nWhile the tasting notes on the bourbons are from legit “tasters\,” just for grins this writer asked AI for a review of the La Gloria Cubana cigars. Depending on which cigar is offered for the evening\, here’s the report: \n“La Gloria Cubana cigars have a variety of flavors\, including: \n\nSalty\, nutty\, and sweet – The 8th St. cigar has a creamy\, smooth mouthfeel\, with a peppery finish that calms down after the first inch. It also has a floral aroma and flavors of leather and roasted coffee beans.\nBrown sugar sweetness – The Esteli Robusto cigar has a brown sugar sweetness with a sharp earth and spice. It also has a bready mouthfeel and flavors of oak and dark chocolate.\nToasty and sweet – The Serie R Black Maduro cigar has a sweet and toasty aroma\, with hints of coffee and leather. It also has a semi-fruity sweetness with coffee and a wave of black pepper.\nToastiness\, red pepper\, and earthiness – The Criollo de Oro Toro cigar has toastiness\, red pepper\, earthiness\, and a sweet cedar flavor. It also has herbal flavors and a medium amount of black pepper.\n\n“Some say that La Gloria Cubana cigars are consistent\, rich\, and flavorful\, with a great balance. Others say that they are a good choice for new cigar smokers and are also reasonably priced.”

His obvious New York accent and Italian-American background fool you\, because he is NOT just another Italian Comic! This true-to-life storyteller turns his hardships\, and those of everyday people\, into brilliantly. \nJeff Norris is a comedy powerhouse who headlines across the country. He’s had roles on Saturday Night Live\, Boardwalk Empire\, Law & Order\, and Oz\, and in the film “Not Fade Away”.\nJeff’s best role is that of Comedy Fundraising Machine. Norris has entertained crowds with his classic impressions\, his perfect comic timing and his genial nature that just makes you love him. In a world of manufactured comedians and artists\, he is the real deal – working in the trenches of comedy performing wherever he goes. When you walk into a Jeff Norris show you may have bills\, stress or sorrow on your plate. When you leave you take nothing with you but your hurting cheeks\, the tears in your eyes from the constant barrage of stories and one-liners and a feeling that you have just seen something special. \nFor a good evening of fun and laughter\, make sure to mark your calendar for this one.  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/laughter-at-the-legion-iv-tickets-934582079157

SUMMARY:Chili Cookoff - Pool Tournament
DESCRIPTION:Pool Tournament\, Chili Cook Off Sunday\, Jan. 21 in Clubroom “To write about chili is to court controversy” says Sho Spaeth\, senior editor at Serious Eats. “Few subjects in American culinary life are so contentious . . . It seems like everyone knows exactly what they think chili should be\, and everyone knows that  everyone else is wrong\,” he writes in a Nov. 7\, 2023 article titled “Divided States of Chili: A Guide to America’s Most Contentious Stew.” Click here to read the full article. Starting at 4 p.m. Sunday\, Jan. 21\, members of the Post will have the opportunity to weigh in on the ‘chili debate’ with a Chili cook off competition that will take place in the Clubroom. At this point no one knows how many types of chili will be in the competition\, but there will be a $50 cash prize for the winning chili. The chili competition will be second event of the day at the Post. Earlier that afternoon\, the regular third Sunday of the month pool tournament will get started at 2 p.m. Clubroom/Bar manager Bob Moye is working with the Entertainment Committee to conduct the cook off. So if you want to compete\, bring your chili to the Post that afternoon. For those who don’t want to cook chili\, there is a request from the Entertainment Committee to bring a side dish that compliments the various chili dishes that will be available. Cornbread is one of the suggestions. The web site GypsyPlate has published a list of “The 30 Best Chili Recipes” that will “stir up your appetite.” Click here to see the list. The question of the day at the Post on Jan. 21 will be how many of chili dishes competing in the cook off for  the $50 prize will stir your appetite and keep you warm on a chilly night?
