SUMMARY:Chili Cookoff - Pool Tournament
DESCRIPTION:Pool Tournament\, Chili Cook Off Sunday\, Jan. 21 in Clubroom “To write about chili is to court controversy” says Sho Spaeth\, senior editor at Serious Eats. “Few subjects in American culinary life are so contentious . . . It seems like everyone knows exactly what they think chili should be\, and everyone knows that  everyone else is wrong\,” he writes in a Nov. 7\, 2023 article titled “Divided States of Chili: A Guide to America’s Most Contentious Stew.” Click here to read the full article. Starting at 4 p.m. Sunday\, Jan. 21\, members of the Post will have the opportunity to weigh in on the ‘chili debate’ with a Chili cook off competition that will take place in the Clubroom. At this point no one knows how many types of chili will be in the competition\, but there will be a $50 cash prize for the winning chili. The chili competition will be second event of the day at the Post. Earlier that afternoon\, the regular third Sunday of the month pool tournament will get started at 2 p.m. Clubroom/Bar manager Bob Moye is working with the Entertainment Committee to conduct the cook off. So if you want to compete\, bring your chili to the Post that afternoon. For those who don’t want to cook chili\, there is a request from the Entertainment Committee to bring a side dish that compliments the various chili dishes that will be available. Cornbread is one of the suggestions. The web site GypsyPlate has published a list of “The 30 Best Chili Recipes” that will “stir up your appetite.” Click here to see the list. The question of the day at the Post on Jan. 21 will be how many of chili dishes competing in the cook off for  the $50 prize will stir your appetite and keep you warm on a chilly night?
